Based in Houston, Dr. Harry Holmes serves as Senior Advisor to the firm. He is a member of the life sciences, professional, medical and governmental services practices team and plays an integral role in the firm’s growth, culture and client service commitment to these sectors. Harry was attracted to Allen Austin because of the firm’s leadership structure and disciplined strategy to retained search consulting. He has a proven record of understanding and counseling on the complexity of health issues in today’s local, state and national environments. He has served on more than two dozen non-profit and corporate health organizations and has regularly advised clients on board, recruitment, leadership and policy matters related to success in these environments for more than forty years.
Prior to joining Allen Austin, Harry was Vice President for Governmental Relations and Special Projects at the University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, reporting directly to the President at the nation’s largest and top ranked cancer center. He was known at the national and state levels legislative levels as a strategist, connector and liaison to leaders in health administration, medical practice, and academic medical centers.
More recently, Harry was Senior Vice President for Public Affairs and Governmental Relations at Texas Medical Center, Inc., the world’s largest medical complex and was deeply involved with policy development and operational issues impacting health care, hospitals and patients. Issues included Medicare coverage, biomedical research development and funding, and insurance coverage for patients.
He was also the Senior Policy Advisor for the Harris County Healthcare Alliance, a coalition of twenty-one non-profit healthcare organizations for the Houston area’s six million plus citizens.
Harry has been a member of numerous national, state and local non-profit and governmental entities for health and higher education including the National Coalition for Cancer Research, the National Comprehensive Cancer Network, advisory committees of the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, and the planning committee for the Texas Life Science Commercialization and Innovation Board.
At the local level, he serves as President of the City of Houston Health Facilities Corporation, Higher Education Finance Corporation, and Industrial Development Corporation, as well as a past member of the Houston Community College Foundation Board, the Greater Houston Partnership Health and Government Relations Committees and the Jesse H. Jones Graduate School of Management Partners at Rice University.
A graduate of Rice University, Harry earned his Ph.D. at the University of Missouri – Columbia and taught at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. He has completed executive management programs at the Wharton School of Business, The Harvard School of Public Health, Stanford University, and the University of Texas McCombs School of Business.
